Travel Resources: My Travel Gadgets & Blogging Tools

Honestly speaking, I am not a techy person BUT I do ask questions a lot. Like A LOT. Before I buy something for myself, I ask great deal of questions to Google and people. I watch related videos on Youtube about travel gadgets too. Most importantly, I compare a lot.

In this article, I’ll be sharing with you my most trusted travel gadgets and blogging tools for the past 3 years. These are the brands that I personally trust for quality photos and videos. However, note that any of these travel gadgets mentioned in this article are not sponsored. I recommend and trust them fully as my travel companion.

MY TRAVEL GADGETS

gopro hero 7

GoPro Hero 7 Black – Action Camera & Underwater Shots

GoPro wasn’t the first action camera I had. Firstly, I had SJ Camera for my action camera back in 2016. It was quite good but I knew I had to upgrade. Secondly, I had GoPro Hero 5 — my first try of using this brand. And thirdly, GoPro Hero 7 which is also my present action camera as of today (September 2020).

For some odd reason, I can’t find myself hating this brand. Although it has failed me once with my GoPro Hero 5’s water damage given that it’s supposed to be waterproof even without its water case. Still, I remain loyal to it. It’s just really good for me and it meets all my expectation when it comes to specs! Especially the built-in video stabilizer feature that GoPro Hero 7 has.

Honestly, when my Hero 5 got broken I was planning to replace it with a new brand — DJI Osmo Pocket. However, turns out I can’t find myself betraying GoPro.

What I love about GoPro:

  • Photo & Video quality
  • Built-in video stabilizer perfect for action activities
  • Fish-eye effect
  • Clear underwater photos/videos
  • Small and compact

Canon PowerShot G7X Mark II – Filming & Blogging

Tired of the traditional large and heavy DSLR cameras? Worry no more! Here is Canon’s bestselling compact camera for filming and vlogging. Furthermore,  the Canon G7x Mark II is still the best camera for vlogging of the year. Packed with some great features into a body not much larger than your smartphone – ideal for lightweight, no-fuss vlogging.

I tried filming travel vlogs first with my iPhone X and it was perfect for beginners. But if you want to take vlogging to the next level, might as well take a look at Canon’s PowerShot G7X. Almost every vlogger I know uses this camera. The price is a bit pricey for me but its overall feature is worth it!

What I love about PowerShot G7X Mark II:

  • Lightweight and compact
  • Has “dynamic IS” – for stabilization
  • Best for night photos and videos

dji mavic mini for travel

DJI Mavic Mini – Aerial Shots

I personally think that a travel b/vlogger’s main goal is to always present a travel destination the best they could. Therefore, shooting the best photos and videos are mandatory. Which means, getting its aerial shot is necessary. It’s not a requirement, but the presentation will always be better with aerial shots.

DJI Mavic Mini is the best compact drone for traveling. It’s main feature is to fit inside a bag without being too bulky like the other drones of DJI. That’s why if you are going to invest for a drone, check out DJI’s travel drone – mavic mini.

What I love about DJI Mavic Mini:

  • FMC consist of 3 batteries with 30 minutes flight time each battery
  • Very compact and portable for traveling

Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 – Polaroid Camera

For point and shoot cameras, I trust Fujifilm’s instax. It’s small, cute and it prints instant photos. What more can I ask for?

Instax Mini 9 was my first ever gadget to buy for myself. I got it for my birthday last January 2016 — a sky blue instax with pink leather bag. It’s still perfectly working up until now, snapping important events in my life.

BLOGGING TOOLS

The most relevant part on how to start travel blogging is building up your website. This is the next step after choosing your photography and/or filming cameras. Starting a website can be really tricky. To help you out, check out the link below and start blogging with WordPress.

Platform Provider – WordPress

There are lots of platform to choose from. For instance, WordPressBlogger and Tumblr. These 3 platform are all good. However, if you are looking for a more professional site, you’ll want to choose WordPress.

Web Hosting – SiteGround

In addition, you will also have to purchase your web hosting. Your web hosting will be your work area and it will be where all your files will be stored in. Check out SiteGround for your web hosting, they are available at USD6.99/month. What I personally like most about them is their built in SG Optimizer plug-in. It increases the website’s load speed by optimizing images.

Tip: maximize SiteGround’s first time purchase discount by availing 3-years account. SiteGround doesn’t give any discount other than the first-time purchase. Hence, if you buy an account for only 1 year, renewing your account for the next year will be expensive.
